Tales From The Boneyard

The Historical Society of Cecil County is presenting “Tales From The Boneyard” on October 25, 2025 beginning at 6:00 p.m. registration & parking are behind cherry hill church at the Harlan house.

Come meet Mr. William Grant, cabinetmaker, undertaker and preacher. He can “marry them and bury them”. He will be waiting beside his hearse to introduce you to his neighbors across the road and to tell you a bit about his professional and personal life. We will be headed to the old cemetery where we will stop to give tribute to the veteran’s of the civil war. Rev. Joseph Brown will recall his experiences in Libby prison during the war between the states. Followed by a visit with Mary Harlan who will describe what it was like to teach in a one room schoolhouse. Dr. Robert Carter, born in 1825, became a country doctor that addressed all sorts of accidents & illnesses of the time. He later got into politics during the turbulent Civil War era. Cherry Hill Church, built in 1859, will also be open to the public.

All of these people contributed to what Cecil County is today. You need to know your history before you try to plan your future. Come pay tribute to Cecil County’s past while honoring those who lived it.
