In celebration of the 250th anniversary of the United States of America, the historical society has been researching Revolutionary War soldiers from Cecil County.

Some disclaimers:

  1. We will be presenting these short, short bios in alphabetical order.
  2. Record keeping was not as good in the 1700s as it is today! Some soldiers’ names may have fallen through the cracks. Sources we used include the Maryland State Archives, Revolutionary Patriots of Cecil County by Henry Peden, the website of Historic Elk Landing, Cecil County in the Revolutionary War (by the Cecil County Bicentennial Committee), History of Cecil County Maryland by George Johnston, online documents from Fold3, family tree information from Ancestry.com, and more.
  3. We did not research the soldiers’ families. What we did research was the battalions and companies that had Cecil County natives. If your Revolutionary War ancestor was from a location other than Cecil County Maryland, you will not find them on our pages.
  4. We make mistakes! If you see something that is incorrect, let us know. 
  5. At some point, we will also post information about locations and events in Cecil County during the Revolutionary War. We will be doing this same thing for the War of 1812, the Civil War, etc throughout the year.
  6. We are still researching Cecil County Black Americans and women who served in the Revolutionary War. Finding this information is extra difficult because of the lack of record keeping for these individuals!
